Our caregivers are special, dedicated people who welcome adults with disabilities into their homes. The caregiver may take care of a disabled family member or a new friend seeking a loving family.
Caregivers are reimbursed up to $1,800 monthly for personal care services. Each and every caregiver is supported by Adult Foster Care's professional staff that helps train the individual regarding the personal care needs of their clients. Adult Foster Care carefully and selectively matches clients with caregivers to ensure compatibility.

Defining a Caregiver
- Anyone in a stable home setting (owned or rented) may apply to be a caregiver. You may already be caring for someone on MassHealth (other than spouse) who qualifies as an Adult Foster Care client.
- Your home must be clean and in good shape. Adult Foster Care will perform a detailed home inspection prior to finalizing the application.
- The client must have his/her own bedroom with a window and a door. Bathrooms may be shared.
- Homes do not need to be handicap accessible unless the client requires such accessibility. Often our clients are fully ambulatory.
- Our program is completely voluntary. There is a thorough matching process during which client and caregiver get to know each other and decide if the match is right for them.
- Adult Foster Care is located in Massachusetts with a focus on Essex County towns. If you live outside of this area, contact us to find the program nearest to you.
- Caregivers may work outside the home if their schedule allows time for proper client attention and care.
- Caregivers are provided with a stipend that is usually between $750 and $1800 per client per month, depending on the level of care. The client pays a room and board charge (like rent) directly to the caregiver, and Adult Foster Care (through MassHealth) pays a stipend. The stipend is tax free.
